Psychologists are uniquely positioned as trusted professionals whom people turn to in times of mental and emotional need. They serve as guides, diagnosticians, and therapists - helping individuals navigate complex psychological challenges with expertise and care. This role is built on rigorous education, ethical practice, and a deep commitment to confidentiality and compassion.

Psychologists typically do not seek help from clients or the public. When we do raise concerns or call for advocacy, it signals that the stakes are high for both the profession and the people who depend on its integrity.

This is one of those times.

Significant changes have been proposed by the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) that would drastically reduce the training and supervision requirements for new psychologists in Ontario.

See what these changes entail and why many in the profession have serious concerns about the impact on public safety and the quality of psychological care.

Proposed changes to Ontario's psychologist licensing requirements raise concerns over drastically reduced training standards, highlighting a 75% reduction in real-world training and potential risks to public safety.

Please review the details carefully and consider the potential consequences of these reforms for yourself, your family, your friends and neighbours.

We believe that there are ways to increase access to psychological services in Ontario that are safe and do not erode training standards.
